The Risks and Protective Factors of Online Gambling
Online Gambling is a popular pastime that allows players to wager real money or virtual currency on games of chance. Its popularity stems from its accessibility and convenience – all you need is a device (computer, mobile phone, or tablet), a working internet connection, and some cash to play. There are also many benefits to online gambling, including stress relief, social interaction, and cognitive function enhancement.
In addition to its accessibility, online gambling is a fun and exciting activity that can be enjoyed by anyone. However, it is important to note that online gambling can also have negative effects on your health if not enjoyed in moderation. Some of these effects include a loss in productivity, health issues, and increased risk-taking behavior.
This review aims to synthesize the current state of knowledge regarding the risk and protective factors associated with online gambling. It was conducted using three academic databases: PubMed, PsychInfo, and Scopus. The search was limited to peer-reviewed articles that reported both a comparison between the population of those who gambled online and those who did not, as well as the presence of any specific risk factor or protective factor.
To participate in online gambling, a player first needs to create an account on the gaming website. This is typically done by filling in a short form and providing personal details. The next step is to deposit some money into the account, which can be done quickly and easily using a credit or debit card.
