Poker is a card game in which players wager chips (representing money) on the outcome of a hand. There are many variations of the game, but the object is to win the “pot,” which consists of all bets placed during one deal. Players may win the pot by having a high-ranking poker hand or by making a bet that no other player calls.

Before dealing the cards, each player antes a certain amount of chips into the pot. In turn, each player must either call that bet by putting in the same number of chips or raise it by at least as much. A player who chooses not to call a bet or raise may discard his hand and drop out of the betting.

After the initial round of betting, each player will have a total of seven cards to make a poker hand. This includes the two personal cards in your hand as well as the five community cards that are on the table. Some of the highest-ranking hands are a full house, which contains three matching cards of one rank and two matching cards of another rank; a flush, which contains five consecutive cards of the same suit; and a straight, which consists of five cards in sequence but from more than one suit.
