For example, they use bright and often gaudy floor and wall coverings that are designed to stimulate the senses and make players lose track of time. Additionally, they often use scents and sounds to evoke particular emotions in their patrons, such as excitement and anticipation.

Many casinos offer loyalty programs, which reward frequent visitors with free meals, drinks, shows, or other prizes. In addition, they have a computerized system that tally up patrons’ winnings and losses and automatically issue receipts. Most casinos have an established maximum amount that a patron can win, and the house always has a mathematical edge over the players.
