The winning team would receive a total prize of 1737 florins, which is equal to about US$170,000.<\/p>\n
Lotteries were also used by the Continental Congress to raise funds for the Colonial Army. Alexander Hamilton wrote that lotteries should be simple and easy to understand, and that people were willing to risk a small amount for a chance at a big gain. In addition to raising funds for the Colonial Army, the United States used lotteries to fund public projects.<\/p>\n
The history of the lottery is mixed. Some states increased the number of balls in the lottery, while others reduced it. The more balls in the lottery, the higher the prize money.
