The problem is exacerbated by the fact that many gamblers use credit cards and do not declare their incomes, which can make it difficult to track them.<\/p>\n
A number of factors influence gambling, including the environment and life contexts to which a person belongs, individual characteristics, and relational aspects. Although several risk and protective factors have been identified, their relationships have rarely been investigated. Moreover, most studies use nonrepresentative samples. In addition, they are mostly cross-sectional, whereas longitudinal investigations are preferable. As a result, this study aims to provide a synthesis of the knowledge about these risk and protective factors and their relationship with gambling.
