Some of these statutes are found in the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) and the Wire Act. Additionally, there are Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) provisions that prohibit illegal gambling business activities.

In the United States, the Travel Act prohibits the conduct of unlawful gambling on interstate commerce. Internet casinos are also subject to the Travel Act, along with players who use interstate facilities for unlawful gambling activities.

In order to be prosecuted under this title, an individual must operate an illegal gambling business that generates gross revenues of at least $2,000 in any single day. They may face imprisonment of up to five years.
